Establishing a decade of craftsmanship into delivering traditional handloom sarees that are rich in designs and intricate patterns Remya is an artisan from Kerala who has given the finest interpretation to her work. Her insights in the art has led her to weave with perfection and passion.
She also says that the passion towards weaving runs in the family as well. This intricate process is otherwise carried out by Remya’s family members who are as skilled in the art as the artisan herself.”We finish the material by putting the threads together in exquisite patterns to become the designer saree that are then sold in the shops.”
An artisan with a passion for 15 years, Manikandan’s venture in the weaving field has set him to conquer the art of designing elegant sarees. He says “It sometimes takes days on end to weave a few sarees and even around three days to complete two sarees.We work on the textures, patterns, designs and prints to complete the saree in all its richness.”
Though Manikandan is primarily into weaving Kasavu cotton sarees, for the most part, he is also known for bringing together the best blends in sarees as well. He adds, “I have at times worked for hours on end without looking at the clock. My family is also equally involved in this trade and contribute from their side as well to help me complete my work.”
Being a panchayat leader and an elder in his village, K Ramasamy has associated himself with weaving for over 30 years and has had the trade passed down from his father and grandfathers. Back in the days, his ancestors have woven sarees with matchless precision and perfect that took its place in the royal family.
He is deeply rooted to this field and emphasises, “My family plays a key role behind the success story of each of my sarees. While I work on the detailing and knitting, my wife and daughter look into the finish and quality.” Bringing life to the colorful patterns and making a saree look picturesque and perfect; he puts his soul into weaving the saree that you’d want from off the shelf.
